Overview

Our philosophy is to only use the information we need to run the chat service, and to respect your personal information.

Collecting data

We need just basic details, ie a username and password, for you to begin using the chat service. Your email address is optional and would be used to gain greater access to the service.

Parts of your profile may appear publicly on the homepage unless you opt out in your settings.

Our server logs store visitor information, such as your IP address and web browser details. We use this information for security and to better understand our users.

Modifying and deleting data

You can view all the information we have about you in your account. You can modify your details, and optional information can be deleted.

You can delete your account from your settings, or contact us on the email below to request that we delete it for you. When your account is deleted, all information related to you is deleted (excluding server logs). Information that will be deleted includes your username, email, password, and profile details. Messages you've sent and received are also deleted, so recipients don't keep a copy of messages you've sent to them, or messages that they've sent to you.

We may delete inactive accounts.

Storing data

To help protect your data, we follow security best practises like only using HTTPS. We don't offer encrypted messaging, so while data is encrypted travelling between your browser and our servers, it's stored as plain text on our servers (except for passwords, which are always encrypted).

The messaging system isn't designed to keep messages indefinitely, so older messages are eventually deleted.

Our service is hosted in the United States.

Sharing data

We don't share your data with third parties, except to comply with the law, to respond to requests like a subpoena or search warrant, or to otherwise protect our rights.

If we sell the chat service, your personal information would be transferred to the new owner.

Cookies and tracking

We don't use cookies except to remember you when you login.

We don't use third party trackers or third party advertising.
